Professor Jeng Yih of National Sun Yat-sen University delivered an insightful learning session with the University of the Philippines Tacloban delegation, led by Dean Patricia Arinto.
Centering on the role of higher education in advancing University Social Responsibility (USR), Professor Jeng highlighted how universities can create value and meaningful change within their immediate communities through impact-oriented initiatives.
Drawing from his extensive experience as a consultant to various organizations, he introduced practical frameworks for assessing and investing in social impact—particularly in the areas of sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
He stressed the importance of harnessing a university’s core strengths; its people, faculty, technology, alumni, and institutional networks as powerful assets for nation-building. For universities these insights are critical in strengthening university governance and ensuring that their academic mission translates into real, measurable contributions to societal development.
