As part of their week-long immersion in Kaohsiung, ten youth leaders led by the Bayanihan Lab Network sat down with MECO-Kaohsiung Director Karina to explore the intersections of local governance, regional development, and diplomacy. The dialogue was a dynamic exchange of ideas—grounded in shared aspirations for the Philippines and enriched by Taiwan’s unique context as a close neighbor and strategic partner.
The conversation spanned local governance, participatory democracy, and foreign policy—exploring how both the Philippines and Taiwan can build on shared values and maximize each other’s strengths. MECO also shared its ongoing efforts in supporting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Taiwan, and the strategic preparation being done for the Luzon Economic Corridor to spur growth in Northern Philippines.
Director Karina encouraged the youth to see Taiwan’s proximity not just as a geographical fact, but as a powerful opportunity for learning and collaboration in the pursuit of nation-building. She underscored how Taiwan’s practices in innovation, public service, and community empowerment can help inform and strengthen local initiatives in the Philippines.
The engagement highlighted the importance of youth participation in cross-border conversations and the need to create more spaces for co-learning between institutions, sectors, and countries.
