In a significant step toward strengthening faith-based leadership and international collaboration, the Metro World Child Foundation Philippines delegation participated in a five-day immersion program in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from March 30-April 03, 2026, under the theme of “Bayanihan and Taiwanihan: Faith-Based Foundations for UNSDGs and Nation-Building.”
Organized in partnership of the Edu-Connect Southeast Asia Association and the Bayanihan Lab Network, the program brought together Filipino social workers and ministry leaders to explore innovative models of governance, education, and community engagement. The immersion program responded to persistent challenges faced by Philippine communities, particularly in governance, social accountability, and service delivery. By engaging with Taiwan’s governance systems and University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives, delegates were exposed to practical and scalable approaches that support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). A key highlight of the program was the visit to the Kaohsiung City Government, where participants gained insights into smart governance, public administration, and innovative urban management. This engagement provided a deeper understanding of how local governments can effectively implement policies while ensuring transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centered services.
Beyond formal institutions, the delegation immersed themselves in grassroots initiatives that reflect the power of community-driven development. Visits to the Shan Jien Bali Association, Yuang Fu Junior High School, and Jin Zhu Elementary School highlighted how education, cultural preservation, and community resilience intersect to create sustainable impact. The Flying Social Services Association further demonstrated how structured after-school programs and volunteer-driven initiatives can extend learning beyond classrooms, fostering both academic growth and social development among children and youth.
Central to the delegation’s journey was the integration of faith and service. Through visits to churches, fellowship gatherings, and a culminating prayer meeting, participants experienced how spiritual formation complements social engagement. These moments reinforced the shared values of compassion, stewardship, and collective responsibility that underpin faith-based initiatives. The program also opened avenues for future collaboration, including potential exchanges between Filipino and Taiwanese interns, strengthening long-term partnerships grounded in shared mission and purpose. Complementing the program’s social and spiritual dimensions were visits to key innovation and sustainability sites, including green architectural spaces and the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park. These experiences illustrated Taiwan’s leadership in integrating technology, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation—offering valuable lessons for participants seeking to replicate similar models in their local contexts. Cultural immersion activities further enriched the experience, fostering deeper intercultural understanding and strengthening the spirit of solidarity between Filipino and Taiwanese communities.
More than an international study tour, the 2026 Metro World Child Foundation Delegation embodied the spirit of Bayanihan and Taiwanihan—a collective commitment to collaboration, mutual learning, and shared progress. By bridging faith-based initiatives with governance and academic engagement, the program highlighted the transformative potential of cross-sector partnerships in addressing complex societal challenges. As delegates return to the Philippines, they carry with them not only new knowledge and insights but also a renewed commitment to service. Empowered by global perspectives and strengthened partnerships, they are poised to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and nation-building—demonstrating that when faith and action come together, lasting change becomes possible.
